What does an agency get placing workers’ comp through Cennairus?

No comp appointment of your own required

We are a licensed wholesale broker, nationwide. Our markets answer under our contracts; you stay the agent of record, keep your commission, and we do not approach your insured.

Every class code, on every submission

All of the account’s class codes go out with payroll against each, including the ones sitting at zero. No market gets to price half the operation.

One file, not six carrier forms

Entity and FEIN, locations, payroll by class, the experience modification and the claims off the loss run are keyed once and reused by every market.

A high mod does not end the file

When the standard market passes, a producer works the specialty markets, the state’s residual market, or an employee-leasing (PEO) route for that account by hand. None of the three is automatic.

How it works

How do I quote workers’ comp through Cennairus?

01

Send what you already have.

A completed application and loss runs, a prior policy, or the account typed into the form.

02

Appetite is checked by class code and state.

Every class code on the account is measured against every loaded market at once, so you see who wants that work in that state before anyone touches a carrier form.

03

The answers come back in one place.

A quote, an underwriting review, or a decline — each named as what it is. A review asks for more information; it is not a price.

Nebraska rules

Who must carry workers’ comp in Nebraska?

  • Who must carry it. Employers with 1 or more employees in their regular trade or business, resident or working in Nebraska.
  • Owners and officers. Owners, partners and LLC members working full-time in the business may elect to be covered.
  • Common exemptions. Railroads in interstate commerce; household domestic servants in a private residence; farms with only related employees, or under ten unrelated full-time employees.
  • State fund only? No. Nebraska is not one of the four monopolistic states, where workers’ compensation can only be bought from the state fund: Ohio, North Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.

Sources: Neb. Rev. Stat. s.48-106(1); Neb. Rev. Stat. s.48-115(9)-(10). Checked October 16, 2026. The state’s own statute and workers’ compensation agency have the final word on any one account.

In plain terms

What decides a workers’ comp price, and which market writes it?

  • Two parts: the benefits, and the suits that get past them. Part One pays the benefits the state’s own schedule sets for a workplace injury or occupational illness — medical treatment, part of the lost wages, death benefits in the worst cases — no matter who caused the accident, and in exchange the worker generally gives up the right to sue the employer over it. Part Two, employer’s liability, answers the suits that fall outside that bar.
  • Price comes from three inputs, and only one of them is size. The class code describes the work being done and drives the rate; payroll is the exposure that rate is applied to; the experience modification is a multiplier built from about three years of that employer’s own claims — under 1.0 it lowers the premium, over 1.0 it raises it. The same ten people cost very different money roofing than answering phones.
  • Appetite is a different question from price. A market can be happy with the state and refuse the class outright, or write the class all day and want nothing to do with a mod over a certain number. That is why the account is measured against every loaded market at once rather than sent to a favorite and re-sent after each decline — and why a decline is one market’s appetite, not a verdict on the risk.
  • Four states sit outside all of this. North Dakota, Ohio, Washington and Wyoming run monopolistic state funds, so private workers’ compensation is not written there by anyone. An employer with payroll in one of them and payroll elsewhere still needs a policy for the rest.

Who buys it: any employer with staff on payroll, since a policy is required once an employer reaches the state’s own threshold, which differs by state (Alabama at five employees, Georgia at three; see each state’s page for its rule and statute link); contractors and trades whose certificates are checked before they get on site; staffing, restaurant, healthcare and habitational accounts carrying real claims history; employers coming off a non-renewal or a mod increase; businesses with payroll in more than one state; owner-only businesses, which need a ghost policy rather than a full comp policy.

The crew that clocks in before sunrise, the modification that moved after one bad year, the certificate the general contractor wants before Monday — that is what this line is underwriting.

Questions we get

Workers’ Compensation, answered

Do you place workers' comp for prepared meals and desserts in Nebraska?

Yes. Nebraska is one of the states we work. Send the account and it is measured against every market with appetite for food preparation and service in Nebraska.

Which class codes do prepared meals and desserts usually fall under?

Most food preparation and service work is rated under NCCI 9080 (full service restaurant operations), 8864 (community food service operations). The right code depends on the work and the state; send the payroll by class and we place it under the right one.

Do I need my own workers’ comp appointments?

No. The market access is ours — we are a licensed wholesale broker, nationwide. You bring the comp account, stay the agent of record, and keep your commission.

What do you need to quote?

A completed application and loss runs is the clean version. A prior policy works, and so does typing the account into the form. The reader pulls entity, locations, payroll by class, class codes and claims from whatever you send.

Which classes and states are in appetite?

It varies by market and it changes. Rather than publish a list that goes stale, the submission is matched against every loaded market at once, so you see who wants that class in that state.

What happens with a mod over 1.25 or prior losses?

The file moves rather than stops: a specialty market, the state’s residual market, or a PEO arrangement where that fits the risk. A producer works it by hand. None of those routes is guaranteed.

When do you use a PEO?

Where it is appropriate. When the standard market passes on a high experience modification or a difficult loss history, a producer opens a PEO route for that account. It is never an automatic answer to every decline.

Can you write the monopolistic states?

No. North Dakota, Ohio, Washington and Wyoming are state-fund states — private workers’ compensation is not written there at all. Everything else on this page applies in the other forty-six states and the District of Columbia.

How fast is a quote?

AmTrust answers instantly inside Cennairus when the risk clears its appetite, with a premium and the carrier’s own quote document. Other markets answer by email. An underwriting review is a request for more information, not a price.

How is my commission split and paid?

You keep your commission on what you place through us, settled monthly. We do not publish rates on a public page. Your agency stays the agent of record.
